Provenance & Details
MW0022013 is a fiberglass-bodied, tube-frame recreation styled after the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. Documented as a 2014 assembled vehicle rather than an original W 198-production Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, it has silver bodywork, vertically opening gullwing-style doors, a Mercedes-style grille and emblems, louvered fender vents, and a bullet-style fender mirror.
The car is reportedly a House of Hotrods build from Mansfield, Texas. It carries an assigned Texas vehicle number in addition to chassis number MW0022013, under which records classify it as a 2014 Mercedes-Benz 300SL replica coupe. Its then owner reportedly acquired it in 2014.
Silver fiberglass bodywork is fitted over a tube-frame chassis. The red-upholstered cabin features custom fiberglass-shell bucket seats, dark loop carpeting, remote cockpit-mounted hood and trunk releases, and a billet-aluminum steering wheel mounted on an Ididit tilt steering column. The car rides on chrome 17-inch wheels with Mercedes tri-star hubcaps and Falken FK452 tires.
Power comes from a fuel-injected 5.7-liter Chevrolet LS1 V8 equipped with a reflashed ECU, custom intake, exposed coil packs, an aluminum radiator, and an electric cooling fan. A Borg-Warner T56 six-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels through a Dana 44 differential. C4 Corvette-derived suspension and brake components are paired with AFCO adjustable coilovers, Wilwood brake hydraulics, and a Flaming River rack-and-pinion steering rack. Dual 2.5-inch exhaust outlets use MagnaFlow mufflers. Instrumentation consists of Classic Instruments gauges, including a tachometer, speedometer, and six-digit mechanical odometer. Comfort and entertainment equipment includes an Old Air Products HVAC system and a RetroSound stereo with speakers in the door jambs and a rear enclosure trimmed to resemble a suitcase.
MW0022013 combines silver-over-red, 300 SL-inspired Gullwing styling with a tube-frame chassis, Chevrolet LS1 V8 power, a T56 six-speed manual transmission, Corvette-derived running gear, air conditioning, and custom audio equipment.
