The 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham was Cadillac’s hand-built flagship sedan, positioned above the conventional Eldorado and distinguished by its four-door hardtop body, rear-hinged rear doors, stainless-steel roof, and extensive standard equipment. Production for 1958 totaled 304 cars, making this one of the rarest postwar Cadillac series. The model was assembled in Detroit by Cadillac/Fleetwood rather than by an outside coachbuilder; the coachbuilt character came from its low-volume construction, unique body shell, and highly specified trim. Cadillac’s 1957–58 Brougham is historically important as the first production car with air suspension and as one of the most elaborate American luxury sedans of the era. For 1958, the Eldorado Brougham used Cadillac’s 365-cu.-in. OHV V8 rated at 335 hp, with triple two-barrel carburetion and automatic transmission.
